Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and The Hateful Eight star Jennifer Jason Leigh will star in Poolman, a comedy-mystery that marks the directorial debut of actor Chris Pine.
The duo joins the previously announced cast of Pine, Annette Bening and Danny DeVito, Deadline reported.
Pine will play Darren Barrenman, an unlucky dreamer and aspiring philosopher who spends his days tending the pool at the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny Los Angeles and attending city council meetings with his neighbors Jack (DeVito) and Diane. (Bening).
“When Barrenman uncovers the largest water theft in Los Angeles history since Chinatown, he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can to corrupt city officials, burnt-out Hollywood types and mysterious benefactors. all in the name of protecting his precious Los Angeles,” reads the official plot.
Pine will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Ian Gotler, a partner in the actor’s production company, Barry Linen Motion Pictures.
The duo will also produce alongside Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny Productions and Jenkins for Wicious Pictures.
Filmmaker Patty Jenkins, who worked with Pine on two Wonder Woman movies as well as the I Am the Night series, will serve as one of the film’s producers.
Cameras will start rolling next month in Los Angeles.
