THE CENTER has granted a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, according to an order from the Ministry of Personnel on Friday.

Gauba, a former Union interior minister, was appointed in 2019 to the country’s top bureaucratic post for two years. This is his second extension on the post. He was granted a one-year extension in August last year.

The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved the extension of the service of Gauba, a 1982 IAS officer from the Jharkhand cadre, as Cabinet Secretary for a further period of one year beyond August 30, 2022, said the order of the ministry.

Gauba also served as a secretary in the Union Ministry of Urban Development, an additional secretary in the Home Ministry, dealing with the crucial left-wing extremism division, among other responsibilities.

He had also served in Jharkhand as chief secretary for 15 months before returning to central government in 2016. He also represented India on the board of the International Monetary Fund for four years.
