Virender Sehwag spoke about David Warner’s infamous stint with Delhi at IPL 2009
David Warner has firmly established his reputation as one of the deadliest hitters in the world. However, that wasn’t always the case, and there was a time when Warner was kicked out of the IPL due to his disciplinary issues.
In a recent interview, former Indian starter Virender Sehwag revealed that during IPL 2009, Warner struggled with many problems. He went out partying a lot, more than he practiced, and even got into fights with some of his classmates.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag stated: “I too have taken my frustrations out on a couple of players and David Warner was one of them. Because when he joined recently, he was celebrating more than believing in practice or playing games. In the first year, he had a fight with some players, so we sent him back for the last two games.

The veteran also added that it was important to teach Warner a ‘lesson’ at the time and despite being kept away from the team, the Delhi Daredevils continued to rack up wins.
“Sometimes it happens that you leave someone out to teach him a lesson. He was new so it was important to show him that you alone are not important to the team, the others are too. There are other players who can play and win the game.” for the team too. And that’s what happened. We kept him out of the team and we won too,” Sehwag said.
Since then Warner has become a key player for Delhi at IPL 2022 as he has scored 427 runs in just 10 games.

However, last season the Australian southpaw made headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad captaincy midway through the season and was benched for the remaining games.
He subsequently joined Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 mega auction and as usual has been impressive during his second spell in Delhi colours.
