Actress Deepika Padukone, founder of the mental health NGO The Live Love Laugh Foundation, recently reviewed the time she was struggling with depression. The actress said that it is her mother Ujwala Padukone who recognized her signs and symptoms in her and encouraged her to seek help from her.
Deepika, who was speaking at an event in Mumbai, said: “I give my mother full credit for recognizing the signs and symptoms because it happened out of the blue. Everything was going well. I was at the height of my career, so there was no apparent reason why I felt the way I did. I would break down for no reason. There were days when he just didn’t want to wake up. I would sleep because sleep for me was an escape. Sometimes I was suicidal, so I had to deal with it.”
Deepika Padukone, who lives in Mumbai, further revealed that whenever her parents visited her, she had to be brave.
“My parents live in Bangalore. So every time they visit me, even now that they visit me, I always put on a brave front that everything is fine. You always want to show your parents that you are okay,” said Deepika.
In 2021, Deepika Padukone launched the Live Love Laugh Foundation, which aims to help people struggling with mental health.
On the work front, Deepika will next be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. She also has Project K and Fighter in the works.
