According to reports, Dylan Mortensen allegedly misunderstood the noises of her four roommates being brutally murdered for loud partying. She mistakenly bumped into the suspected killer, Bryan Kohberger, and asked her friends to quiet down. Later that evening, she opened her bedroom door once more after hearing more loud noises. It was then that she spotted the alleged murderer, whom she thought to be a partygoer due to their black clothes and a mask, leaving the house around 4 AM.

Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke survived the massacre of November 13, but tragically lost three of their housemates – Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle. Ethan Chapin, who was Xana’s boyfriend, also lost his life in the incident. Authorities now believe that Bryan Kohberger most likely acted alone.

Despite concerns about the time it took for the survivors to report the killings (eight hours), Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke got matching tattoos as a memorial to the deceased shortly after the tragic events.

The four individuals who lost their lives were Ethan Chapin (20), Xana Kernodle (20), Madison Mogen (21), and Kaylee Goncalves (21). They were all friends residing in the Moscow home at 1122 King Road when the murders occurred.

Dylan Mortensen allegedly witnessed the suspected Idaho killer, Bryan Kohberger, but failed to call the police.

Following the release of the arrest affidavit, 21-year-old Dylan Mortensen, who survived the Idaho quadruple murders, became the subject of multiple discussions and debates about her actions, or the apparent lack of them.

Reportedly, she told investigators that she had opened her bedroom door and came face-to-face with the suspected killer on the night when Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were brutally murdered in the same house.

On November 13, just after 4 a.m., she saw a “figure clad in black clothing and a mask” walking past her towards the back exit. Instead of calling the police, she allegedly locked her bedroom door and went back to sleep.

According to the police affidavit, Mortensen reportedly thought she heard Kaylee Goncalves say, “There’s someone here,” which led her to the sound of crying from Xana.

During a memorial service, an Idaho pastor read a letter from Mortensen and Funke, praising the victims.

According to CNN, Mortensen’s letter described Kernodle as “the life of the party” but also a “strong, intelligent, hardworking, and beautiful person.” She also mentioned that Chapin was “sweet and loving” to Kernodle, his girlfriend, and like an “older brother” to Mortensen.

Mortensen expressed that Mogen and Goncalves were “the inseparable duo” and considered them like second mothers, as reported by CNN. She emphasized how her life was greatly impacted by knowing these four beautiful people. The pastor read from Mortensen’s letter, as per CNN.

In her letter, Mortensen warmly remembered the people who had changed her life in many ways and brought immense happiness to her. She acknowledged that it would be tough not to have the four of them in their lives, but she firmly believed that Xana, Ethan, Maddie, and Kaylee would want them to live life joyfully and celebrate their lives.
