The KNMI meteorological office issued a yellow weather warning for the eastern and southern areas of the country, one day after the first official summer day of the year.

Thunderstorms and hail are forecast Tuesday afternoon in all provinces except North Holland, Flevoland, Friesland and Groningen, while temperatures could rise as high as 27 degrees.

The KNMI said strong gusts could also be experienced in the affected areas. The weather system will move from west to east before crossing into Germany around 5 p.m.

On Sunday, the De Bilt central weather station recorded a temperature of 25 degrees, marking the official first day of summer 2022.

Unsettled conditions are expected to continue through the rest of the week, with more storms expected Thursday and Friday, before temperatures drop to around 20 degrees over the weekend.
