Actor Yami Gautam recently decided to let go of all “fears and insecurities” by writing a note revealing that she has suffered from keratosis pilaris, an incurable skin condition since she was a teenager.
The 32-year-old decided not to hide her skin problem and adopted it instead. Explaining more about keratosis pilaris, she added, “For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s a skin condition where you get tiny bumps on your skin. I promise they’re not as bad as your mind and your neighbor aunt claim. I developed this skin disease during my teenage years, and there is still no cure for it.
Sonal Bansal, consulting dermatologist, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, said: “Keratosis pilaris causes tiny bumps on the upper arms, thighs and elbows. They can be red in color and feel rough. They are very often confused with ingrown hairs.
“If the skin is dry, these bumps can be itchy, and the dryness can increase them,” she added.
The dermatologist advised against using harsh abrasives to cleanse the skin. She said, “To treat keratosis pilaris, the use of glycolic acid creams is recommended. In addition, a gentle exfoliation is necessary.
Yami set an example of self-esteem and self-embrace with her post. “I have been dealing with it for many years now and today, finally, I have decided to let go of all my fears and insecurities and have found the courage to love and accept my ‘flaws’ of all my heart.
