Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem’s Being The Ricardos couple are reuniting for the upcoming animated musical film Spellbound. According to Deadline, the two stars have joined the cast of the Rachel Zegler-starring film along with John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, Andre De Shields, and Jordan Fisher.
The fantasy film, which comes from Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation, follows a young woman who must break the spell that has split her kingdom in two.
Zegler will voice Princess Ellian, the tenacious princess who must embark on a daring quest to save her family and her kingdom after a mysterious spell turns her parents into monsters and threatens to cover Lumbria in darkness forever. Kidman will voice the character of Ellsmere, the kind and fair but hyper-accurate queen of Lumbria, with Bardem as the boastful but generous King Solon of Lumbria.
Lithgow and Lewis will play Princess Ellian’s royal advisers, Minister Bolinar and Minister Nazara Prone, respectively. Lane and De Shields voice The Sun and Moon Oracles that Ellian seeks to break the spell on her parents and her kingdom.
Vicky Jenson of Shrek fame will direct the film from a script by Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin and Linda Woolverton.
Academy Award winner Alan Menken will provide the film’s original score with lyrics by Glenn Slater. Chris Montan will serve as executive music producer. John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and David Lipman are producing for Skydance Animation.
Kidman and Bardem most recently starred as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in filmmaker Aaron Sorkin’s Oscar-nominated film Being The Ricardos.
