With its ornate architecture and amazing sea views, Odessa has been called the “Pearl of the Black Sea.” Now, however, the Ukrainian city has “turned into a fortress,” according to its mayor, as residents brace for a possible assault by invading Russian forces, with barricades, anti-tank obstacles and sandbags strewn across the streets. They were once bustling to protect the city’s most treasured monuments.
