India’s Railway network is the heart of the country’s transportation system. It’s the world’s fourth longest rail network and is constantly improving to be more efficient and modern.
Indian Railways has successfully launched superfast trains. These trains have seen major upgrades in recent years and connect the country’s main cities at high speeds. The Indian Railways is working to make these trains even faster.
The Indian Railways has proposed twelve routes for high-speed rail lines. The Gatimaan Express, as of 2023, is one of the fastest trains in India, reaching speeds of 160 km/h (99 mph) in some sections. The Vande Bharat Express is the fastest train in India, with a speed of 180 km/h (110 mph).

2. Tejas Express (Max Speed- 162 km/h)
Indian Railways launched the Tejas Express in 2017. This train is fully air-conditioned and runs at a semi-high speed. It’s the fastest of the three semi-high-speed trains currently running in India. The train has automatic doors and modern amenities onboard.
It also offers extra features like personal reading lights and CCTV cameras. The train travels 551 kilometers from Mumbai to Goa in about 8.5 hours. Tejas Express has an average speed of 110 km/h and can reach a maximum speed of 162 km/h.

The Howrah Duronto Express runs at a speed of 120-130 km per hour and covers 1450 km. The Anand Vihar Yuva Express covers 1438 km and the Allahabad Duronto Express covers 632 km. These are some of India’s fastest trains and they offer modern amenities for passengers. They are known for their time efficiency. The Allahabad Duronto Express doesn’t have a pantry coach.
The Anand Vihar Yuva Express is the cheapest of the three. It reserves 60% of its seats for students and low-income groups.
